Dar luz

Dar luz (Giving Light) begins with an observation of the Santiago neighborhood in the old town of Cáceres, where the historical architecture (due to its scale, density, and layout) creates spaces that remain in shadow for much of the year. In particular, some narrow streets cease to receive direct sunlight during the winter months, transforming into passageways where light is absent.

Based on this condition, Dar luz is based on a simple yet significant gesture: redirecting sunlight towards Calle Hornillo, one of these shadowy streets in the old town. Using a heliostat installed on a rooftop, reflecting the sun becomes a symbolic act: providing light where it doesn’t reach, redirecting the sun towards a street that, during the months of the intervention, has ceased to be marked by the luminous path of time.

The intervention proposes an experience that questions the relationship between sunlight and architecture, and how a slight deviation from nature can alter the perception of the environment.

Dar luz parte la observación del barrio de Santiago, en el casco antiguo de la ciudad de Cáceres, donde la arquitectura histórica (por su escala, densidad y trazado) da lugar a espacios que permanecen en sombra durante buena parte del año. En particular, algunas calles estrechas dejan de recibir la luz directa del sol en los meses de invierno, transformándose en pasajes donde la luminosidad se ausenta.

A partir de esta condición, Dar luz se basa en un gesto sencillo pero significativo: redirigir la luz del sol hacia la Calle Hornillo, una de estas calles sombrías del casco antiguo. Mediante un heliostato instalado en una azotea, reflejar el sol se convierte en un acto simbólico: prestar luz donde no llega, reconducir el sol hacia una calle que, durante los meses de la intervención, ha dejado de ser inscrita por la trayectoria luminosa del tiempo.

La intervención propone una experiencia que cuestiona la relación entre luz solar y arquitectura, y cómo un leve desvío de lo natural puede modificar la percepción del entorno.
